Melissa's 40th! + 20th Livestream Sat! + Slidell Market

Hey Friends!

We're nearly 5 months off the road now, the longest we've ever gone without regular gigging.  We're both beginning to feel the effect of this in our playing, in our state of mind and our very approach to making music.  Not an easy path to navigate, but we do our best to keep each other hopeful and inspired.
We're continuing to write and record (new album in 2021?);
To play and record our Facebook Live from the Porch Sessions (new live album 2021?);
And encouraging ourselves to explore more…

June 2020 - The Times They Are A'Changing

Hello Friends,

Such incredible and intense times we are living through.  These last couple of weeks (or so) have been unprecedented and are shifting the consciousness in significant ways.

It's sometimes hard to know what to say right away, so we've spent a lot of time reading, listening, sighing, meditating, and learning.  The journey towards Unity and healing centuries-old injustices will not be remedied in a day, a week, nor months.  This will be a life-long process that we all take part in.

We are…

New Video, Tourland and Upcoming shows

We've uploaded a new video to the website and YouTube!  It's from last July, when we celebrated with my mother, Melanie, for her birthday in Dallas.  It was such a joy to have her on the stage with us, and sing one of our favorites, Long Black Veil (a well-known country ballad from 1959, written by Danny Dill and Marijohn Wilkin and originally recorded by Lefty Frizzell.)  Check out Melanie's amazing harmonies!  Click here.

Video from Music at the Mint series

We share with you a taste of what will likely become a live album for us from the Music at the Mint series!  What an amazing experience it was to play in this state of the art theater that doubles as a recording studio.
We've got one (iPhone) video posted from the 3rd show so far...hopefully more to come, as time permits.  The shows were filmed/streamed and recorded, although the Mint's livestream site can be a bit finicky yet functional.  They are in the process of transferring everything to a YouTube…Read more

Being at Home for a hot spell

We made it home from this amazing tour.
4,870 miles in 26 days.  Epic!
Thanks so much to everyone along the way who made us feel so welcome and at home wherever we were.
The trip was amazing, we just fell in love with New Mexico.  We look forward to spending some time out there again, particularly when it's 102 degrees in Louisiana and we check with our Santa Fe and Taos friends and see that it's 25-30 degrees cooler.  Sigh.
Everywhere we played, the responses were really positive.  It's very encouraging :)

The Living Room Sessions - December 2013

Happy Solstice dear friends,
We had a hard time deciding the next song to share from our Living Room, so a happy bonus for you, we're sharing two!  A double shot of goodness on the shortest day of the year.

About the tunes:
Killing the Blues - A favorite cover written by Rowland Salley (better known as bassist for Chris Isaak). We discovered it on the album Raising Sand by Alison Krauss and Robert Plant and it quickly became a staple of our live sets.

Miss the Mississippi - Another favorite cover. This one was…Read more

The Living Room Sessions

Hello and Happy Holiday season!
The year is winding down and our hibernating-creating nature is settling in. We're shifting our musical gears again and developing new sounds with a focus on strings and vocals.  Melissa is playing her Takamine acoustic again, (which was the 1st guitar she learned to play with back in '96), combined with Matthew's electric creates a nice blend of natural tones.   We're always exploring new ways to record at home and get the best sounds we can.  We're enjoying the process of…
