Seasonal Shifts - Autumn 2021

Hey friends and family,

A long overdue update here; as autumn leaves fall, seeds are being planted as well.  These newsletters would ordinarily be a monthly note, but the months keep flying by quickly, and much of the plans we make end up changing.  We're taking life one day at a time, as always.

We've enjoyed some consistency through all of this in the form of working on our house, making it our own, and exploring more of the Shoals.  There are some really gorgeous nature spots in the surrounding…

March Madness + cancellations and hibernations

Hey friends,

We've come to the end of our Escape MG tour, which has turned into Escape CV.  Strange times indeed.
We were lucky that none of our traveling shows were cancelled, but it looks like the next few weeks will be 'hide and hibernate' time.  How quickly things change...It'll be a good time to work on new songs and recordings!

We've posted two videos that we captured from out in West Tx HERE.

We had such an amazing time out west, and want to thank all of our friends and fans for their…

NM+TX + Ogden + Rock & Rouge - March 2020

Happy Leap Year!

We're currently in Bisbee, AZ on our way to NM next and in the midst of our Escape Mardi Gras tour in the Great Southwest!
We're enjoying the desert air and meeting many kind folks along the way.
It's good to hit the refresh button periodically and breathe in new landscapes...essential to the creative impulse.

March isn't just the name of the month, it's the action to describe the happenings!
March is the fullest calendar we've seen yet for music land and we're so incredibly grateful…

December - Alabama/TX/NOLA

Happy Holiday times!
We're so pleased to be winding down 2019.
I hope you all are making resolutions to make time for self-care, to nurture the experiences that bring you joy and to surround yourself with community that you find your soul is drawn towards and uplifted by.  These are a few of our favorite things...

After trekking over 23K miles just in tour miles (!!), we're winding down December with a little bit less to do-ness.  Somehow, that's more miles than we did last year, even though we went all…

Tour Time = TX+NM

Happy Summer!

We're gearing up for annual sojourn out to New Mexico and Texas!
While last summer's tour found us way out west with lots of shows, we're reeling (real-ing) it in a bit to take a little down time for inspiration/rejuvenation.

Our schedule this summer allows for a balance of shows with some time to rest/write and record, primarily in El Rito, NM.

We'll start in Alexandria and then Austin area, bringing our drummer, Nolan Marsh with us.
Then home for a few days before we start the journey to…

We're so grateful for the epic year that was 2018 for us, and you all helped make it possible.

a new DRR record; NCIS: New Orleans TV appearance and song placement;
Melissa played her first Bass guitar gigs; Matthew continues playing with Shawn Williams (who is nominated for two Offbeat Awards here in New Orleans!)

One day at a time, we keep truckin' down the path, our heads…

THANK YOU SO MUCH!

Dear friends,

We wanted to extend our deepest gratitude and love to everyone that made it out to our CD release party at Portside Lounge last Thursday, and to everyone that couldn't make it but sent their best wishes for a successful show!

Playing music means the world to us, and sharing it with a room full of friends is all the more special.

By all accounts, it was a successful show, due in great part to the efforts of our good friend Shannon Elizabeth Shephard who spent hours with Melissa in…

New Radio Show! New Year! New Adventures!

2018 has snuck up on us, and brought extreme cold (at least for us and what we're used to!).  Freezing temps are not the norm for our winter vibes.

This past year felt full of starts and stalls.  So many dreams and ideas we ponder and come up with...just seem to evaporate almost out of the starting gate.  I'll admit, it's difficult sometimes to be both the creator and the manager and activator/motivator.  And sometimes, it's just not the right time yet for an idea to fully manifest.  So with patience and…

Gratitude Season

The year is winding down, and the retail world is winding up.
We're winding inward...this time of year for us is about gratitude, reflection and pondering/pausing.
Taking stock of the year that's gone by, and visualizing what's in store for the year ahead.

We're still writing,  and still visualizing the upcoming records...the path is still foggy for the how/when details.  No worry, no hurry.

A few upcoming shows are on the books, and as always, we're delighted to be invited for your house concert…

Playing Catch Up

The last couple of months we've been playing catch up.  The time has flown by, and yet in certain ways, we're feeling like we haven't done very much.  That's the challenge and the balance as an artist; to keep the wheels spinning, the engine running, the canvas creating, the shows playing, all while trying to make rent.

We're doing the best we can with what we've got.  I know you all are in the same boat in your own way, and probably feel like your time is stacked...like every minute of the day is…

New Video, Tourland and Upcoming shows

We've uploaded a new video to the website and YouTube!  It's from last July, when we celebrated with my mother, Melanie, for her birthday in Dallas.  It was such a joy to have her on the stage with us, and sing one of our favorites, Long Black Veil (a well-known country ballad from 1959, written by Danny Dill and Marijohn Wilkin and originally recorded by Lefty Frizzell.)  Check out Melanie's amazing harmonies!  Click here.

Video from Music at the Mint series

We share with you a taste of what will likely become a live album for us from the Music at the Mint series!  What an amazing experience it was to play in this state of the art theater that doubles as a recording studio.
We've got one (iPhone) video posted from the 3rd show so far...hopefully more to come, as time permits.  The shows were filmed/streamed and recorded, although the Mint's livestream site can be a bit finicky yet functional.  They are in the process of transferring everything to a YouTube…Read more

Gratitude Times

Even in turbulent times, changing of seasons, and many unknowns, we go forth with grace and gratitude.
We are still here, the sun comes up, and we write, breathe, play music, and share cherished friendships.

"Once the realization is accepted that even between the closest
human beings infinite distances continue, a wonderful living
side by side can grow, if they succeed in loving the distance
between them which makes it possible for each
to see the other whole against the sky."  Rainer Maria Rilke
